As the year comes to a close, who doesn't take some time to reflect?
There have been lessons learned, moments of triumph and then there is all the anticipation of what the next year will bring.
The small Instragram community we have been a part of this year have been absolutely amazing and each year I look forward to finding out which nine cakes got the most likes.
So without further ado, here are the top nine cakes of the year - as voted for by our lovely followers on Instagram.
#9. Drip Cake Of Dreams
This little pink and silver two-tier beauty was created for the lovely lot over at Martha Brook London. Martha Brook make extraordinary stationery and have such a wonderful vibe as a team. I truly was delighted to make this for their launch party in November. Martha chose this design from our Celebration Cakes page, and I made it brand consistent with the pink and silver. We added on some lovely fresh flowers from a local florist and I'm told the cake was the most "snappable" feature of the night!
#8. Blue-Eyed Boy
I'm not surprised this wedding cake for Cassie and James made the cut. You only have to hear that the blue tier was incorporated to meet the bride's request to have something that reflected the colour of her groom's eyes - and it's all swoons from there really! This cake also featured the ever winning combo of ruffled and stenciled tiers, which has proven really popular this year. Cassie gave me free reign on the design of this cake and I really enjoyed making it for their May wedding.
#7 and #6. Laced With Pearls
Obviously a favourite for Instagram as it appears twice in our Best Nine! Though small, at three tiers, what this cake lacks in height, it more than makes up for in loveliness. Featuring a textured bottom tier and lace adornment in the middle, the lustred shimmer effect is what really accentuates these elements of the cake. Of course, it may also have been it's crown of Coral Charm peonies that won this fair lady its affections.
#5. Devenport House
There is something about a dessert table that captures the eye. Perhaps it's the harmony of different treats singing together to emit a glorious visual melody or maybe it's the thrill of the options. But here at number 5, is a delightful spread for the Open Day at Devenport House in March this year. I'm not sure if it's because pink is one of our brand colours, but it never fails to please. Plus, abounding in sugar roses and ribbon, could this spread have been more romantic?
#4. Love Is Patient
We were overwhelmed with the comments about this naked cake. From the head chef, to the bride & groom, to wedding guests, and to Insta-love - this cake received many comments about its grand height and precise uniformity. This one is definitely a favourite of mine, as it was for dear friends of mine. I was more than honoured to make their wedding cake. What started off as a long distance love story had its culmination in a September wedding and we couldn't be happier for Catherine and Ben!
#3. Blush Gold Luxe
More pink, but this time, gilded to the max for this photo shoot at B.Loved Hive. We were asked to provide a five tier cake for the lovely Events By Funmi's styled shoot; and when we heard the colour combo, we couldn't resist. Shot by the amazing Amanda from Amanda Karen Photography, we love the luxe feel of the shoot. Another nod to the minimalist trend, the cake makes its impact without being too heavily decorated. We think that the metallic element will still be heavily on trend for 2018 brides.
#2. Copper & Stone
This cake is one of my favourites of all time, let alone 2017. I love a lustred cake and if I could include it in every design, I would. I also have a lot of time for metallics and the colour navy, so it was a no-brainer to pull this combo together. I think the appeal of this cake comes from the surprising fusion of soft pink, navy and copper. As much as I adore the beauty of simplicity, especially when it comes to colour schemes, I think sometimes, a bit of adventure provides the magic touch.
#1. Shining, Shimmering, Splendid
And now, an image that most of you will be familiar with - the background of our homepage, our most visited blog post and our most liked image on Instagram. To be honest, I would have been upset if this one didn't occupy the top spot! This was my first go at directing a full styled shoot, rather than just contributing to one. I could write a blog post alone on all the lessons I learnt. I won't repeat the premise, as you can easily find that here. But, I was super pleased with how this turned out. It includes all my favourite things: sugar flowers for the whimsicality of it all, gold metallic elements for the soft glamour, and of course pink and grey for the romance.
So, as you can see, 2017 has been a busy one. Aside from the above, our top highlights include:
Our brand spanking new logo and website face lift
Hitting 1000 followers on Instagram
Our first 7-tier wedding cake
Being featured in Wedding Flowers & Accessories Magazine
ALL the weddings (Well, because, this is why we do it)
See you in 2018!
